JOB DESCRIPTION:

Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains voice telecommunications equipment. Provides reports, completes requests for new service, and determines methodology for installing telephone service. Determines appropriateness of moderate equipment changes or modifications including call switches, test trunks and test links, and installs communication circuits.
The Telecommunications Technician coordinates phone and voice mail services for the City of Memphisend users and demonstrates a thorough understanding of the capabilities and features of modern telephone switches, call accounting programs, telephone billing and equipment purchase, and phone/voice mail training.

Performs preventive maintenance on the computer systems/storage as well as repair system/environment problems.  Administers system/storage solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules.  Can interface with vendors for trouble calls.

Plans and executes a variety of highly complex assignments associated with managing and controlling compute operating systems. Sets up and maintains more than one type of computer system. Analyzes system faults and troubleshoots and runs diagnostic tests on operating systems and hardware to detect problems. Evaluates and installs developed software during various phases of testing.  Coordinates the remote testing of products in other areas.  Reviews and prepares documentation for systems, tests and installation of software.  Investigates and recommends methods and techniques for obtaining solution. Initiates preventative maintenance on the operating systems as well as repairs system/storage problems.  Administers and/or oversees system/storage solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules which are critical to the success of programs.  Plans system/storage requirements for individual projects.  May participate in the creation/maintenance of the overall management plan.
